How To Fold or Coil Sawmill Blades How to fold sawmill blades and how to coil sawmill blades refer to the same action. Different sources will use this terminology interchangeably. Because portable sawmill blades can be large when unfolded, folding or coiling the blades will reduce their size for easier storage and handling. Remember to wear gloves and eye protection in addition to keeping others at a safe distance when handling sawmill blades. 1. Raise the sawmill blade with its teeth pointed toward you and slightly squeeze the blade inward. 2. Keep your arms locked and swing the top of the blade downward so it bends under. 3. On the downward bend, bring your hands together, crossing over each other. 4. The sawmill blade will form three loops. Lift the bottom blade loop upward with your left hand to catch all three loops in one coil. 5. Your sawmill blade is successfully folded or coiled. Remember to secure the coiled blade with a wire tie to ensure it won’t unfold or uncoil. Alternate Method If you do not feel confident using the flexing method, you can use this alternative method to fold or coil your sawmill blades. 1. With your hands at the 8 o'clock and 5 o'clock position, place the sawmill blade against a log or something that is safe to push against a saw tooth. 2. Then walk towards the log and pull your wrists up and then down, folding the blade in to complete the coil. 3. Your sawmill blade is successfully folded or coiled. Remember to secure the coiled blade with a wire tie to ensure it won’t unfold or uncoil.
