More Than a Garage
When you first encounter the garage/office that Robert
Craig built, it is impossible not to get a sense of warmth and
caring. Robert and his son put their hearts and souls into
this 2,400 square foot shop; deliberating over every detail
of construction. With a deep connection to the wood that
came from the trees, the two men carefully planed, shaped,
and installed each board and beam. The proportions of
the interior beams were unique based on the room size to
give the space a sense of balance and harmony. "Some were
especially large to be commensurate with the volume and
space," Robert explains. That same attention to detail was
carried throughout the structure with even the garage doors
being built by hand.
The 42' x 34' building features Douglas fir,
cedar, and pine. The father and son team used their
LT40 Super Hydraulic to mill 20,000 board feet at
the construction site. The project was two years in the
making and took five months to build. Robert estimates
his Wood-Mizer accounted for a savings of $30,000 on
this job.
The main goal was to use wood materials in a
way that would enhance every aspect of the building
while incorporating unusual shapes and dimensions.
"It is a great joy to see this building come together
with a Wood-Mizer being 'the' main ingredient for
accomplishing the task," comments Robert. |
